Rio Tinto Yarwun alumina refinery was the first greenfield refinery to be built in the western world in 20 years in 2004.  The refinery uses leading-edge technology with environmental design features to produce 3.2million tonnes of alumina per year.  The refinery also includes a 160MW cogeneration facility, which allows us to reduce our greenhouse gas intensity, harness waste heat to create steam, and feed surplus, low emission electricity back into the Queensland electricity grid.

This site tour will include a drive around the key components of the refinery process and a look out of the whole Bayer process.  Key specialists will also be available to provide commentary and answer any questions.
